Dawn came bounding through the meadow and froze solid when she saw the cats in the den. "What are you doing here?" she hissed at the clan cats. She glanced at her old friend, Larry, her eyes full of worry.

"A clan?" she turned her head to the handsome young tom, Ashstar and blushed immediately. "Can I join?"

Dawn bit her lip with jealousy at Leafpetal while she waited for Ashstar's answer.

"I'm Dawn," the tawny she-cat mewed proudly. "But if I'm joining a clan... Do you think you could give me a warrior name?" She smiled slightly at the tom cat, enjoying the view.

"Yay," Dawnpaw mewed will a wide grin. She stepped forward a little. "Will you be my mentor, Ashstar?" Her eyes fluttered bashfully, flirting easily.

"Oh, okay," Dawnpaw mewed, looking sad. Her blue eyes flickered at him before turning to her new mentor, Daisystripe. "I'm sure you'll be a great mentor."

"I think I'll settle with Daisystripe," Dawnpaw mewed, glancing at Leafpetal standing next to Ashstar. "She offered first." She clamped her jaw hard, trying to not be jealous and hate on Leafpetal.

Dawnpaw nodded sadly. "I guess I'll see you soon then," she mewed, mainly talking to Ashstar. Her blue eyes blazed in the growing dark.

Dawnpaw bounced up happily when she saw the cats arrival. "Hey guys!" she mewed bounding over to them. She caught sight of Ashstar and smiled.

"Yeah, sure," Dawnpaw mewed to Daisystripe while she gridded her teeth at Leafpetal. "Maybe you can teach me while we go hunting."

Dawnpaw followed her mentor after frowning at the obvious couple. That wasn't going to stop her though... "I can't wait to learn how to be a warrior," she meowed to Daisystripe.

"I, uh... I've never trained or have been in a battle," Dawnpaw admitted. "I only know how to hunt." She bit her lip, embarrassed.

"Sure," Dawnpaw mewed happily, searching the vast meadow for prey. She spotted a quail and crouched low in the grass, stalking toward it. When she got close enough, she darted at it and caught it just before it could take off. She brought it back and dropped it at Daisystripe's feet, happy with herself.
